Lost in; locked in the waking thoughts
Of a thousand dreaming nights
Hopes, and fears; undisclosed confessions of desire,
To fall not on deaf ears, but no ears.
For they never venture forth
From the world of the unused. "what ifs" and "maybes"
And if the reason is as lost on you
As it remains on me,
Then perhaps I have found empathy at last
For those who've lost the things I never thought I'd gained.

Sometimes, terrible things happen that affect so many people, so deeply, that the world can and should never be allowed to forget what happened. These things have to be remembered, so everyone knows what it feels like, and so we all know that it's something should never be allowed to happen again.
But sometimes in our grief and remorse, we act rashly, and do things that, in hindsight, we might regret.
It's right that people grieve, and everyone has their own way of dealing with it, but sometimes we get so caught up in the spectacle of public mourning, that we're in danger of losing sight of
